3 Reasons Why Summer Programs are Great for Your Child

The summer rolls around and many parents are scrambling to figure out what to do with their school-aged children while they work. Summer programs, particularly those geared towards learning are great resources. Here are three reasons why:

Reduce Summer Learning Loss
Most students begin to lose many of the skills learned during the school year, shortly after school lets out for the summer. Many summer programs and camps encourage learning in a fun and exciting way which leads to less learning loss and in many cases, academic gains.

Allows Exploration
Summer programs and camps often provide students with the opportunity to learn and explore new and different things. Through field trips or even on location activities they have the room to learn and grow in new and exciting ways.

Continued Social Development
For many students who stay home during the summer, their social interactions with peers are greatly limited. Students who attend a program are still able to socialized with peers while learning and growing in new areas.

Do you send your kids to summer programs? Are they learning based, exploratory, or sports based? How have your kids benefited from them?

For many people, they hesitate to send their kids to summer programs due to the costs. However, there are many programs out there through local colleges, community centers, or churches that can assist in covering those costs or reducing them greatly. Look into some of your local resources for assistance if money is a barrier to your kids attending a program this summer.
